INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR WOMEN "RELEASE DR AFIA, LYNN STEWART, MISSING IN PAKISTAN IN WASHINGTON
Washington-DC; In connection with International Day for Women, renowned human rights activists, representatives of human rights and women rights organizations held a peaceful demonstration in front of Pakistan Embassy Washington DC on March 8, demanding Pakistan Government press for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqi. Co-director of International Action Center Sara Flounders, along with Brother Mauri Saalakhan of Peace thru Justice Foundation, Ralph Poynter (husband of Lynn Stewart, the lawyer for the blind Sheikh undergoing jail sentence), Joe Lombardo of United National Antiwar Committee, Secretary General Shahid Comrade of Pakistan USA Freedom Forum, Saleem Akhtar executive director of American Muslim Task Force, Steve Downs, executive director of National Coalition to Protect Civil Freedoms, resigned Army Colonel and diplomat Ann Wright were also present for the occasion.
The group earlier held a press briefing at National Press Club in Washington DC to raise international consciousness for the Repatriation to Pakistan of Dr Aafia Siddiqui and to call for Compassionate Release of imprisoned attorney Lynn Stewart, suffering from 4th Stage cancer,Release All MISSING PEOPLES in PAKISTAN and to demand Israeli accountability of the death of Rachel Cori.
A human rights delegation, after the rally for Aafia Siddiqui, called upon acting Ambassador of Pakistan and deputy chief Mission Dr. Asad Khan and presented a resultion in this regard. Shahid Comrade on this occasion also conveyed wishes of Pakistani living abroad demanded fair and free election thru chief election commission [CEC] in Pakistan.
