President and COAS Gen. Kiyani should play their dynamic role for Dr Aafia’s release: Dr Fowzia

UNAC Co-Chairman, Jo Lombardo and Code Pink Chairperson Judith Bello talking to media at the Karachi Airport

Karachi. Dr Fowzia Siddiqui, sister of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who has been sentenced for 86 years in the United States of America, has lauded the efforts of Federal Interior Minister Abdul Rehman Malik regarding release of Dr Aafia. It is need of the hour that the President of Pakistan Asif   Ali Zardari and the Chief of the army Staff, General Ashfaque Pervez Kiyani should also play their dynamic role for the immediate release of Dr Aafia.

She expressed these views while talking to media persons on the occasion of departure of foreign delegates, the UNAC Co-Chairman, Jo Lombardo and Code Pink Chairperson Judith Bello at the Karachi Airport, Tuesday.

Dr Fowzia said that it was for the first time that the Federal Interior Minister had on behalf of the Government of Pakistan raised the issue of Dr Aafia to the US Administration, which would reinforce the efforts of human rights activists across the world. She called for efforts in this regard from top ranks of the country including the President and the Army Chief.

On the occasion, Lombardo said that the US Judiciary failed to dispense the justice to Dr Aafia, which stands condemned. He appealed to the US President Barrak Obama that he should order for the release of Dr Aafia for the sake of humanity. Bello on the occasion said that in Dr Aafia’s case, the measures required for impartial justice were not fulfilled. The people of the US would thus be informed of the injustice done to Dr Aafia so as to motivate them for building pressure on US Administration for Dr Aafia’s release, she said adding that she was quite hopeful for early release of Dr Aafia.
