ISLAMABAD—Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui, the sister of Dr. Afia Siddqui, a Pakistani doctor who is currently behind the bars in the United States under terrorism charges, has said that the incumbent government has become insensible instead of helpless with respect to Dr. Afia Siddiqui’s case.
Addressing a pres conference here at National Press Club on Sunday, Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui strongly criticized government’s lethargic attitude towards Dr Afia case saying that why Prime Minister Gilani did not raise voice for Dr. Afia’s return to the country if he considered her as his sister.
She said efforts were being made deliberately through media to distort Dr. Afia’s character while making delay in her case.
“Under the US laws, Dr Afia could be punished for three year under the crimes she is indicted for, but efforts are being made through using delaying tactics for increasing this sentence”, she added.
Dr. Fauzia also flayed the attitude of legal consultants who were hired by the government after expending a huge amount of $ 2 millions saying that it seemed as a part of conspiracy increasing sentence of Dr. Afia.
She complained that Foreign Minister Shah Mehmodd Qureshi did not reply to any of her letters that she wrote to him in Dr. Afia’s case.
She also strongly criticized Pakistani Ambassador in the United States Hussain Haqqani saying that he never made any effort for arranging their meeting with Dr Afia, and even his hired layers did not talk to us on this issue.
Dr Fauzia Siddiqui said that the strength of Pakistani nation is wrongly being judged as the nation could force and bow down the US to address its grievances.
“Our strength and power is wrongly being estimated, we are playing an important and key role in war on terror, we can bow down the United States to address our concerns and meet our demands if today we announce disassociation from this war”, the sister of Dr. Afia observed.
