Another Message of Solidarity with Aafia

The author of what follows is a Boston area leader who knew Aafia Siddiqui – as an undergraduate student, graduate student, young wife and mother, and now as an unjustly held prisoner of war. He is also one of the few leaders of greater Boston with the courage to defend this much maligned political prisoner. Imam Abdullah Faaruuq will not only join us for the March 30th "12 YEARS TOO LONG!" mobilization, he will deliver a presentation Sunday evening (March 29) at the Prince George's Muslim Association (PGMA) in Lanham, MD.

When we begin to consider the case of injustice against Aafia Saddiqi we must be careful. There comes a point when the claims of injustice against her must be considered as plainly inhumane . There is a lot at stake, for her, her family, for us and this nation.

When driven by an agenda, It is easy to level accusations against someone who is innocent, and out of ignorance bring about irreversible harm.

The claims they have made against Aafia are untenable and unsubstantiated, the physical mistreatment is cruel and the harsh sentencing is draconian; but forcing her to rot in prison is inhumane. Yes our humanity is at stake! This means all of us, none of us can sit silent and not be blameworthy for doing so.

I speak truth to this government on her behalf because it is all I can do, but more importantly I call upon God Almighty to relieve this woman and her family of this suffering.

This is the voice of someone who has eaten her food, worked with her to spread the message of Islam and contributed to the efforts she made to relieve human suffering.

To see her suffer like this pains my heart, angers me and causes me to pray more deeply and sincerely for her and against her enemies. Allah have mercy on her and us. FREE AAFIA!!!
