AAFIA MOVEMENT

100000 signatures to ensure Aafia petition reaches Obama

Karachi, August 01: The family of Aafia Siddiqui has requested peace-loving people to sign a petition urging the President of United States of America Barak Hussein Obama to consider the case of Pakistani mother Dr Aafia Siddiqui on humanitarian grounds.

In a statement issued here Friday, the Aafia family said we have three more days till midnight August 3  in Washington DC, to reach 100,000 signatures on the petition. “We are so very close. If we reach our goal this petition will be presented to President Obama for review, who may choose to act on it immediately. He may decide to look more closely into the case. He may not choose to act at all. We are hoping and praying that his sense of compassion and justice will guide him and allow Aafia to come home.”

The Aafia family said we have not had any meaningful contact with Aafia for years. The brief phone calls too have now stopped. We are told she is in 'solitary lock-up'. The Muslim holidays of Ramadan and Eid passed by but we have no way of knowing how our sister is.

“Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, our daughter, our sister, our mother, the daughter of the Nation has been treated shamefully by the American legal system. After eleven brutal years this petition represents a chance to end the nightmare.

“Those of you who have already signed the petition have our gratitude love and prayers. If you are reading this and you haven't signed it, please, it takes only a few minutes. All you need to do is provide your name and your e-mail address. Providing your zip code is optional. Within a few minutes you will receive a confirmation notice. Click on the confirmation link. The entire process will take less than five minutes. Please pass this on. Aafia needs you.”

The statement said the struggle continues with the prayer that our efforts be accepted and Allah bless and guide us all towards a successful result. We pray for the innocent families of Gaza, Malaysian airline passengers, SeaView drowning victims and the oppressed people worldwide.

All who have signed and helped us may Allah keep them and their loved ones safe, they have given us hope and  renewed trust in humanity, peace, justice and freedom, the statement concluded.
