Fowzia says Indian government, political parties played laudable role for release of their citizen
Karachi, December 19: Aafia Movement Pakistan leader Dr Fowzia Siddiqui, lauding the role of Indian government and political parties in the release of their citizen arrested in the USA, said sadly the Pakistani government and Pakistani political parties, so far, have failed to take such dedicated efforts for the release of the daughter of the nation, Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
In a statement here Thursday, she said safeguarding the rights of their citizens is the hallmark of a proud nation. She said Aafia Siddiqui is not only a highly educated of Pakistan but also a patriotic citizen of this country. All she wanted was to make Pakistan the education hub of Asia. She said the government and political parties should have raised a strong and united voice against the illegal detention of Dr Aafia and the inhuman sentence handed out to her, murdering all norms of justice and civility. She said the successive governments and political parties in Pakistan have just paid a lip service to the cause of Aafia but never taken serious and practical efforts.
Fowzia Siddiqui said unfortunately the government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) also failed to play its due role to secure the release and repatriation of innocent Aafia. She said Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had issued some positive statements on the issue of Aafia detention, but his government now seemed less interested to press the American government to release Aafia.
She said the government, people and political parties of India proved them as a proud and unified nation, when the Americans arrested their woman citizen deputy consul general Devyani Khobragade on the charges of facilitating illegal immigration of her maid Sangeeta Richards. She said because of this brave Indian stance as a unified nation the US Secretary of State John Kerry was compelled to regret. She felt the US administration could also have regretted in the same manner on Dr Aafia Siddiqui issue had the government, people and political parties shown a sense of national pride and unity.
Aafia Movement leader once again appealed the government and political parties to revisit their halfhearted stance on the issue of Dr Aafia and take united and serious efforts to secure early release of Aafia and her reunion with her family, especially her ailing mother. This one action may be what is needed to snap the Nation out of Pessimism.
