Oppressive regimes violating human rights with use of brutal force: Dr Fowzia
Karachi, December 9: Justice (retired) Wajihuddin Ahmed has said that human rights are fundamental rights of people irrespective of the fact that they are written in the law books or not. He said in fact these rights of the birth rights of human being bestowed upon them by Allah, the Almighty.
He said this in his presidential address to a seminar on human rights organized by Aafiyat Welfare Trust at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) here on Monday. He said though the United Nations and different countries have given legal and constitutional guarantees to the human rights, but no one could snatch these rights of people as they are bestowed upon them by God. He said it is ironical that the self-proclaimed champion of the human rights, United States of America, is today violating these human rights mercilessly and its examples could be found in the Guantanamo Bay detention center and the detention of Dr Aafia Siddiqui in an American prison. He said every aspect of the trial of Dr Aafia was illegal. He said if the present Pakistani government is doing nothing for the betterment of the nation and country it could at least play its role for release of Aafia, and this act would wipe out a lot of blemish from its face.
Aafiyat Welfare Trust and Aafia Movement Pakistan leader Dr Fowzia Siddiqui said today no country is immune from the violation of human rights. She said, however, in the countries where human rights advocacy is the strongest, the violation of human rights is totally unacceptable. She said in Pakistan hundreds of innocent people have gone missing and no one knows who whisked them away. She said at the same time the daughter of the nation Dr Aafia Siddiqui was kidnapped along with her children, trafficked to Afghanistan and from there shifted to America. She said the trial and imprisonment of Aafia are the worst examples of violation of law and norms of civility.
She said today when we are talking about the facts and myths of human rights, it is fact that the rulers have deprived people from their basic human rights. She said the case of Dr Aafia is still a mystery for many people. She said Dictator General Musharraf says he does not know who kidnapped Dr Aafia. At the same time he writes in his book that he sold Dr Aafia for $5000. His prime minister also confessed that the General knew everything. She said from Shaukat Aziz to Yusuf Raza Gilani the rulers term Aafia Siddiqui as their daughter and sister and claimed that they would bring her back. She said these rulers have gone but Dr Aafia is still in foreign prison. She said today when the son of Gilani has gone missing he could also feel the pain of Aafia Siddiqui and her family.
She demanded of the government to release all missing persons and take efforts for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
Shamim Kazmi of Business and Professional Women also demanded of the government to take efforts for the release of Dr Aafia. She appealed to the Supreme Court to dispense justice in the cases of missing people including the people from Balochistan.
