Aafia return first priority after taking oath, says Mamnoon Hussain
President Elect telephones Asmat Siddiqui, enquires about her health
Karachi, August 27: After taking oath as the president of Pakistan my first priority would be to take efforts for early release and repatriation of Pakistani woman scientist and educationalist Dr Aafia Siddiqui, said President Elect Mamnoon Hussain while talking on telephone to Aafia mother Asmat Siddiqui here in Karachi.
A release of Aafia Movement on Tuesday said the president elect enquired about the health of Asmat Siddiqui and assured him his full support on the issue of Dr Aafia. He said in this regard he would take all-out efforts from the President House.
Aafia Movement said after a private TV channel aired an interview with Asmat Siddiqui the president elect Mamnoon Hussain telephoned her at her Karachi residence, enquired about her health and conveyed his good wishes. He said Aafia Issue is a national issue. He said after taking oath his first priority would be to resolve this issue and he would play his due role in this regard. He said Dr Aafia Siddiqui, the daughter of the nation, is a great woman who has faced all adversities and atrocities courageously.
Mamnoon Hussain said he would try his best that Aafia is soon reunited with her innocent children and ailing mother. He said Allah, the Almighty, has granted them a chance to serve the masses. He said they would try their best not to shake the confidence of people reposed in them.
Aafia mother thanked the president elect for taking personal interest in Dr Aafia Siddiqui issue and prayed for his success. She also prayed for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
